Introduction
6/29/09

Last week was a busy one at Mariners Bay as Judge Raymond Cardenas (Ret.) was presented with a collage of his experiences which attempted to commemorate more than 15 years of participation in my classes.  In addition, Masa Kumada (my student from Osaka) finished his 10 day intensive training toward USPTA certification so he can teach in Japan.  Check out some pics of the first tennis lesson he’s ever given below with Mayumi.

1)  Salute to Judge Raymond Cardenas (Ret.)

I want to thank all of you who worked out with Ray Cardenas over the years, contributed photos, and sent your good wishes.  Here is the collage and the presentation in his back yard with a champagne toast to all of you.  His wife Monica was crying so much she could barely hold the camera!

Below is a closer look.

2)  Camp Kumada
------------------------------------------

Thanks to all of you who participated in Camp Kumada.  Masa concluded a brutal 12 hours in 10 days of singles, doubles, and private instruction with a "Sayonara Singles Match" against Jeff Minkin.  He put up a valiant effort but succumbed to Jeff’s underspin artistry 6-2, 7-5.  On that day he also taught his first tennis lesson ever to Mayumi Ikeda in Japanese.    Here are some snaps:

Masa plans to take the USPTA exam in early October, so he will be back to hone his teaching style in late September,
so be ready for another great Camp Kumada!

See you soon.
